I had a baby in October, and while my experience was very different from yours (full term singleton, out of hospital birth) I found it very jarring when care providers suddenly started calling me Mom. To have my name taken away when so much of the rest of my life had been (even in the face of the incredible gift of parenthood! Which I'm very grateful for!) felt like way too much in the beginning.
Substack pro right here, I’m taking notes. Thanks for the inspiration, Mandy 🧠 I write JOYLAB, a substack about facilitating joy & fun in communities, plus human connection. I’m going to go ahead and cross-refer you. Hope that’s cool.
Thank you Mandy Len Catron for sharing your experience with such humility and vulnerability. Cool mom, and kick ass writer! :)
:) :) love to you, Jorja!
Sending you a virtual hug. I always enjoy your writing. Congratulations to you and Mark on your adventure of parenthood.
Thank you. Hug welcome! :)

I really appreciate how you put this. It is jarring! To be suddenly nameless. To be the center of care and then shoved off to the side.
