Dear friends, I planned to write this newsletter weeks ago but I got stuck. Well, to be more specific, I got a new job. A proper academic job with an actual salary (a first for me) and a lot of responsibility. A job I almost didn’t apply for because I worried I would never have time to write again.
Hi Mandy, this is Ed from just south of the border in the Seattle area. I love the work you're kick starting and would be happy to help. A former colleague of mine, Jeff, and I have started a few posts the traditional "blog" way at http://helpconnecting.com/ but I like the substack model a lot.
I have just started learning how to write. The image that you shared beautifully captures what was running in my head..."There are so many people writing about so many things, what I write might be a speck"
I like your perspective of writing for the joy of writing...not giving too much importance to the subscriber count...But is it really possible? Does it not happen that you send out a post and eagerly wait to hear the response from people about it? I am curious to know.
Also, I would like to hear your thoughts on the challenges elderly people face in battling loneliness. In case you have already about it, please do share the link.
Hi Mandy, I just found this, read it, and loved it. And I needed it today. I've been really wrapped up in (read: anxiously, often at significant expense to my mental health) trying to Be a Writer for decades now, but especially lately, and even though I know other writers struggle with some of the same stuff, I often forget that. And so it was refreshing to read this reminder. Keep bringing your truth. And thank you.
Being a writer is lonely

I really like the way you describe things.
